(Mon 8/22) The Hopelands Summer Concert Series, presented by The City of Aiken Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department, continues on The Windham Performing Arts Stage. Tonight, it’s “Swing-sation”. Show time is 7pm and admission is free. Blankets, lawn chairs and picnic baskets are welcome! Hopelands Gardens is located off Whiskey Road in Aiken. (Fri 8/26) The 4-Seasons Chamber Jazz Series continues at The Unitarian Universalist Church of Augusta, 3501 Walton Way Extension. Four Seasons Chamber Jazz is a musical celebration of art in nature, with artists performing perform several selections representative of the season. The summer concert, which is Friday evening at 7:30, featuring local artist Ed Fuqua. Information, including ticket prices, is available on the Four Seasons Jazz Facebook Page.
(Sat 8/27) It’s time to break out your grass skirts and Hawaiian shirts for the Island Run 3-point-1. Race time is Saturday morning at 8. Proceeds benefit Safe Homes of Augusta, a domestic violence intervention center. The route is on The Island Course at Champions Retreat Golf Club, providing scenic views of the Savannah River. (Sat 8/27) Here’s a great way to stay cool and celebrate the importance of clean water. It’s The Big Float—Savannah Riverkeeper’s Paddle Float and Tube Event coming up this Saturday starting at 9am. Open to kayaks, canoes, SUPs, and innertubes, the Big Float also features the Homemade Raft Competitition. All participants must have a life jacket, water, and a paddle or oar. (Sat 8/27) This week in Augusta, The Henry Brigham Community Center, at 2463 Golden Camp Road, hosts the 6th annual “Stop The Stigma Red Party”. The event benefits St.Stephen’s Ministry, which provides transitional housing for people living with HIV and AIDS. It's tomorrow evening from 6 til 11pm. (Sat 8/27) Saturday, it’s an evening of live jazz and lovely people at The Jessye Norman School of the Arts, 739 Greene Street in Downtown Augusta. Saturday evening at 7:35, The Soiree: Jazz and Wine event features Eric Hillman playing the music of Miles Davis. That’s followed by an open jam session. (Sat & Sun 8/27-28) Calling Arthur, Guinevere, Lancelot, and Company: Augusta University’s American Opera & Musical Theatre Institute is holding open auditions for their upcoming production of Lerner and Loewe’s “Camelot.” Auditions for all leads and chorus take place this Friday at 7pm and Saturday at 2:30pm at AU’s Fine Arts Center, Room C-1. (Mon 8/29) Next Monday, August 29th, it’s the Red Shoe Golf Classic taking place at North Augusta’s River Golf Club. The benefit event for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Augusta tees off with lunch at noon—then a shotgun start at 1:00. The Golf Club is located at 307 Riverside Boulevard. (Fri 9/09) The Harry Jacobs Chamber Music Society opens its new season with a performance by the Jasper String Quartet at Augusta University’s Maxwell Theatre. The award-winning Quartet performs a rich mix of both standards and new music, premiering their commission of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Aaron Jay Kernis’ “3rd String Quartet”, The concert takes place Friday, September 9th at 7:30pm. (Fri 9/09) The Southern Soul & Song Series kicks off its new season with the phenomenal talent of Marty Stuart and his Fabulous Superlatives on Friday, September 9th at the Imperial Theatre. For over 40 years, the Grammy winning singer, songwriter and historian has built his rich legacy.
