(Mon 10/17) The Continuo Collective of the South ensemble performs Monday night at Augusta’s St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church as part of the Vola Jacobs Memorial Series, The program begins at 7pm and includes compositions by multiple members of the Bach family featuring flute, violin, cello and harpsichord. (Mon 10/17) In celebration of the legendary Star Wars books, The Nancy Carson Library, at 135 Edgefield Road in North Augusta, is hosting “Star Wars Reads Day” tonight from 6 to 7:30pm. Costumes are welcome. The event includes snacks, games, lightsaber battles and more. For more info, you can click on the calendar tab at The Nancy Carson Library website.
(Tues 10/18) Augusta Technical College is holding a Career Fair Monday from 11am to 1pm. It takes place in the 1300 Building on Augusta Tech Drive. Positions available include electrical, welding, nursing, maintenance, child care, mechanics, retail, corrections officers and more. Over 20 employers are scheduled to participate. (Thu 10/20) The Augusta University Opera Institute and Ensemble presents “Mozart, Murder, Mikado” Thursday evening at the Maxwell Theatre on AU’s Summerville Campus. Performers include pianists Peyson Moss and Cindy Wilkinson, as well Brandon Essick on timpani. Show time is 7:30pm. (Fri 10/21) The Augusta Photography Festival starts Friday and lasts until the 30th. Events take place at various locations including photography walks at Phinizy Swamp and Downtown, and workshops at Helms College on Washington Road. Augusta’s photography competition finalists’ work will be exhibited at the Arts and Heritage Center of North Augusta on Georgia Avenue. More information is available at augustaphotofestival.org.
(Fri 10/21) The Four Seasons Chamber Jazz Series Continues this week. In celebration of autumn, innovative saxophonist Gray Mayfield plays selections representative of the season. The Concert is Friday evening at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Augusta on Walton Way Extension. Showtime is 7:30pm. Tickets and additional information online at 4season.bpt.me .
(Sat 10/22) Are you crazy…about your dog? Fort Gordon is hosting a Puppy Howl-o-ween Party Saturday at the Fort Gordon dog park on Brainard Avenue. This event is free and includes a costume contest, activities, and the opportunity to network with other dog enthusiasts. More information is available on the events tab at fortgordon.com.
(Sat 10/22) “A Night of Paine” is an adult costume party to raise money for Paine College. Presented by The Pan-Hellenic Council, the party is Saturday night, 9pm, at The Historic President’s House on the campus of Paine College. (Sat-Sun 10/22-23) The legacy of the Oka Chaffa Indian Festival continues with the National Native American Pow Wow taking place at Augusta’s Lock & Dam Park. The weekend event features dancers, artists and historians honoring and sharing traditional Native American ways. The location is 1853 Lock and Dam Road. Hours are 9 to 6 Saturday; 9 to 5 on Sunday. (Tue 10/25) Coming to Saint Paul’s Church next week, it’s the D’Amore Duo performing chamber music for oboe and guitar as part of the Tuesdays Music Live! Series of free midday concerts. William Feasley and Emily Tsai perform around the world at venues including St. Martin in the Fields in London and the Smithsonian Institution.
