(Event date: Tue 01/03) Coming to the Main Branch of the Augusta Library Tuesday, January 3rd, it's a Book Club discussion of author Brian Panowich's book, Bull Mountain, from 6 to 7pm. Mr. Panowich is a 2017 Literary Festival panelist and his book won the ITW Thriller Award for Best First Novel and the Pat Conroy Award for best mystery. The event is free and open to the public. (Event date: Fri/Sat 01/06-08) The Friends of the Columbia County Library are having a Book Sale this Friday and Saturday, The sale takes place during regular library hours from 10 to 5 in the atrium of the Library located at 7022 Evans Town Center Boulevard. (Event date: Fri-Sun 01/06-08) The Poison Peach Film Festival returns for a 9th installment this Friday through Sunday. It showcases local and regional films in a variety of genres. Saturday night is R-rated and features horror films. Showtime is 7pm each night at the Imperial theatre, 745 Broad Street in Downtown Augusta. (Event date: Sat 01/07) Symphony Orchestra Augusta presents Bach’s beloved Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 this Saturday beginning at 7:30pm at First Baptist of Augusta on Walton Way Extension. The evening features guest conductor and violinist Levon Ambartsumian and the night’s repertoire includes Piazzolla’s “Four Seasons of Buenos Aires”, Mozart’s “Serenata Notturna”, and Tchaikovsky’s “Souvenir de Florence. (Event date: Sun 01/08) Symphony Orchestra Augusta & Augusta University Department of Music present the "Youth Concerto Competition". It’s Sunday afternoon at 1pm in the Maxwell Theatre on AU’s Summerville Campus. Orchestral instrument students ages 10-18 perform one movement from an orchestral concerto in pursuit of cash prizes and opportunities to perform with Symphony Orchestra Augusta. Auditions for potential new members are scheduled for Monday evening from 6 until 8pm at Aiken Center for the located at 122 Laurens Street, SW. (Event date: Tue 01/10) Tuesdays Music Live—America’s largest lunchtime concert series—presents contemporary chamber ensemble The Revien Trio January 10th beginning at noon at Augusta’s Saint Paul’s Church located at Reynolds and 7th Streets on the Riverwalk. Featuring guitars, electronics and cello, the trio is regularly featured on NPR’s “Performance Today.” As always, the concert is free, with paid lunch reservations available. Children ages 5 and up complete their own winter-themed mini-masterpieces and, of course, enjoy some cookies. The Aiken Center for the Arts is located at 122 Laurens Street, SW in Aiken. (Event Date Sat 01/14) Saturday, January 14th, from 10 ‘til 5, its Snow Fest at Evans Towne Center Park--a winter festival for the entire family. Activities include tubing on the giant snow slides, carnival rides, snowman building, and lots of food, crafts and vendors. Proceeds benefit The Press On Fund, fighting against childhood cancer. (Event date: Fri 01/20) Coming up Friday, January 20th, bluegrass prodigy Sierra Hull performs at Augusta’s Imperial Theatre as part of the Southern Soul & Song music series. Multi-Grammy-Award winner Alison Krauss has said: “Talent like hers is so rare, and I don’t think it stops.” Hull is a remarkable mandolin player and a true-tone vocalist who has play the White House, Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center.
