(Event date: Now through Sat 01/21) The 38th Augusta Futurity is happening right now in downtown Augusta. It’s the largest cutting event east of the Mississippi and features entertainment for all ages, including the cutting competition that takes place through the final rounds on Saturday night, Jan. 21. (Event date: Wed 01/18) Wednesday at 10am, Augusta University’s Literacy Center presents Sticks and Stones--a light-hearted play addressing the serious epidemic of bullying that children face every day. Told in Porkchop Productions’ signature whimsical style, the play addresses steps to take when confronted with a bully. (Event Date: Thu 1/19) Thursday night at 7:30, USC Aiken’s Etherredge Center presents “An Evening with Danny Kaye” featuring Brian Childers portraying the legendary actor, singer, dancer, comedian and musician. Having performed numerous incarnations of Danny Kaye on stages from Los Angeles to Broadway, Brian is bringing his critically acclaimed one-man show to Aiken’s Etherredge Center, located at 471 University Parkway. (Event Date: Thu-Sat 01/19-21) The Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School presents, “Dance and Dessert and Emerging Artists” tonight through Saturday. It takes place at the school’s Beverly Barnhart Theatre, 615 12th Street in Augusta. The annual dance and all-encompassing arts performance includes ballet, modern, tap and jazz numbers, and sweet refreshments after the show. (Event date: Fri 01/20) Friday evening, The Four Seasons Jazz Concert Series continues at The Unitarian Universalist Church on Walton Way Extension. For the winter season, the performer is the innovative jazz percussionist, Louis Ramanos. The Connecticut-born artist moved to New Orleans to study jazz, and hasn’t looked back since! (Event Date: Fri-Sat 01/20-21 Augusta’s Le Chat Noir opens its season this weekend with the heartwarming show, “Tuesdays with Morrie.” It portrays journalist Mitch Albom’s reunion with his college professor, Morrie Schwartz, who is battling Lou Gehrig’s disease, Tuesdays with Morrie --begun as a modest labor of love to help pay some of Schwartz’s medical bills—is now the best-selling memoir of all time. (Event date: Sat 01/21) Saturday evening at The J.S. Harden Performing Arts Center in Evans, Symphony Orchestra Augusta’s Columbia County Concert Series presents The Zora Quartet. (Event Date Sat-Sun 01/21-22) Augusta Mini Theatre presents the play, “Before The Storm”. Written and directed by Tyrone J. Butler, “Before The Storm” is the story of Erica and Nikki, two “middlers” who ignore their mother’s advice and suffer the consequences. Performances are this Saturday and Sunday at The Judith Simon Drama Studio on the Campus of Augusta Mini Theatre, 2548 Deans Bridge Road in Augusta. (Event date: Mon 01/23) The Wild Kratts are coming to the Bell Auditorium on Telfair Street in downtown Augusta this Monday evening! The animated Kratt Brothers, Martin and Chris come to life in the Classically Wild Kratts story, “Off To The Creature Rescue!”. The show features some fan favorite creature power suits that the brothers use to confront a comic villain. Show time is 7:30pm. (Event date Tue 01/24) Coming to Augusta’s Saint Paul’s Church next week, it’s Tuesdays Music Live’s Roy Goodwin Concert featuring a performance by the Davidson Fine Arts School Chorale. The FREE one-hour lunchtime performance begins at noon.
