(Event Date: Mon 02/06) Monday night, the international Irish dance phenomenon, “River Dance”, returns to The Bell Auditorium, 712 Telfair Street in downtown Augusta. This 20th anniversary tour continues to draw on Irish traditions, combining the talents of the performers with the energy of the music. (Event date: Tue 02/07) This Tuesday at Saint Paul’s Church, Tuesdays Music Live presents pianist Chris Atzinger performing at the concert series’ Robert & BJ Haynie Memorial Concert. Lauded in Gramophone for his “abundant energy, powerful fingers, big sound, and natural musicality,” Mr. Atzinger is celebrated for insightful performances throughout the US and Europe. (Event date: Tue 02/07) Tuesday at the Augusta Library Headquarters, the Augusta Literary Festival Book Club meets to discuss A Sinful Calling. It’s 2017 Literary Festival Panelist Kimberla Lawson Roby’s novel featuring Reverend Curtis Black. (Event Date: Tue 02/07) Tuesday evening, “Poetry Matters”, a project in collaboration with Goodwill’s Hire Grounds Café, presents a series of readings by local poets with special featured guests. Tonight, Calvin Pennywell shares his spoken word artistry. It takes place from 6:30 til 8pm at Hire Grounds Café, 3179 Washington Road at Fury’s Ferry. (Event date: Thu 02/09) Thursday at the Morris Museum, Southern photographers discuss their current exhibition “The Female Lens: Photography from the Do Good Fund. Event date: Fri 02/10) The Southern Soul & Song Series is back Friday with a performance by Hot Rize featuring awesome ingenuity on mandolin and fiddle, bass, banjo and acoustic guitar. (Event Date: Fri 02/10) Symphony Orchestra Augusta presents “Black Violin” Friday evening, 7:30 at The Bell Auditorium, 712 Telfair Street in downtown Augusta. Comprised of Wil Baptists and Kev Marcus, “Black Violin” fuses jazz, hip-hop, funk and classical to focus the power of the music on younger audiences. (Event Date: Sat 02/11) The Tony Howard Motown Review returns to the Imperial Theatre, 745 Broad Street downtown Augusta, this Saturday evening at 7pm. The show, now in its 9th year, includes tributes to the Temptations, Gladys Night, Tina Turner, Prince and more. (Event Date: Sat 02/11) The USC Aiken Cultural Series presents “The Harlem Quartet” Saturday evening at The Etherredge Center, 471 University Parkway in Aiken. The musically versatile ensemble has shared the stage with a “who’s who” of talented performers from Itzhak Perlman to Paquito D’Rivera--all in pursuit of their goal of advancing diversity in classical music.
