(Event Date: Mon 5/08) The Hopelands Summer Concert Series is back for another year. Tonight at 7pm, the Savannah River Winds are set to perform. Admission is free for the family friendly Aiken Tradition. Blankets and lawn chairs are welcome! Hopelands Gardens is located at 135 Dupree Place in Aiken. (Event Date: Wed 5/10) Augusta University Literacy Center and Porkchop Productions presents Goldilocks tomorrow at 10 at the Maxwell Theatre on the Summerville campus of Augusta University. It’s an opportunity to find out in this whimsical tale if Goldilocks learns the important lesson of respecting others as well as yourself. More information available at calendar.augusta.edu.
(Event Date: Thu 05/11) This Thursday, North Augusta’s 2017 Music in the Park series of free hour-long outdoor concerts kicks off with the “North Augusta Idol Spotlight” and “Dancin’ in the Park” starting at 7pm. This family-friendly dance party is a new addition to the series and features beach music and shag dancing. (Event Date: Fri 5/12) Lady Antebellum Amphitheatre is the location for what is being billed as “The Ultimate Mother’s Day Weekend Concert”. The Temptations Revue, featuring Dennis Edwards, together with The O’jays are set to perform this Friday at 8pm. Dennis Edwards was the lead singer of The Temptations when they won Grammy Awards for “Papa Was A Rolling Stone” and “Cloud Nine”. The O’Jays hit records include “I Love Music” and “Love Train”. (Event dates: Fri-Sat 05/12-13) This weekend, the Aiken Bluegrass Festival returns for its 13th year to the Western Caroilna State fairgrounds on Friday and Saturday with performances by some of the biggest names in bluegrass. You can enjoy a weekend full of music, unique crafts, kids activities and on-site camping. The fairgrounds are located at 561 May Royal Drive. (Event Dates: Fri 5/12-14) The Augusta Players present the Broadway musical, Disney’s “Beauty and The Beast” this weekend. Shows are scheduled tonight through Sunday at The Imperial Theatre on Broad Street in Downtown Augusta. This classic musical love story is filled with unforgettable characters, lavish sets and costumes, and dazzling production numbers including “Be Our Guest” and the beloved title song. (Event date: Sat 05/13) The Malpass Brothers bring their traditional country music sound to Evans’ Hardin Performing Arts Center this Saturday night. Retro country is the perfect attire for this performance dedicated to the memory of Merle Haggard, for whom the Brothers began opening in 2008. Showtime is 7:30. (Event Date: Tue 05/16) The 26th annual G.A.M.E.S. Awards Banquet—presented by the Augusta Sports Council and the Augusta Chronicle—celebrates outstanding amateur athletes in Augusta featuring two-time Olympic medalist Jennie Finch as the keynote speaker.
