Georgia Is Fighting A Workforce Gap By Engaging Youth In The Skilled Trades
Primary Content
We went down to Moultrie, Georgia, to check out the first skills challenge event in the region. More than 140 students competed in masonry, carpentry, welding, electrical, and plumbing competitions. The winners received various prizes, scholarships, and gained entry into the statewide skills competition that will take place 2018 in Atlanta.
The event, which was sponsored by local and statewide industry leaders, is just one way we're trying to build a pipeline of skilled workers in the construction industry. As JCI Contractors President Lyndy Jones told me, "the sky's the limit" for those interested in a career in construction as the opportunities are almost endless.
Trade Five is a workforce initiative that shows Georgians the benefits and opportunities of careers in the “skilled trades” of five industries: Construction, Energy, Logistics, Manufacturing and Telecommunications.
By helping Georgians learn more about these trade jobs – and how to launch and grow a career as a tradesperson – Trade Five helps people and companies build their futures.
Trade Five was one of the sponsors of this event, and for more information check out all it has to offer.
