Georgia High Schools Will Offer New Writing Courses Geared Toward The Film Industry
Primary Content
The film industry is booming in Georgia, and there are many opportunities for those seeking to work behind the camera whether it’s set design, lighting, or other “below-the-line” trades.
One area where Georgia needs more talent is in the creative writing and content production side of the business, and that’s where Georgia high schools come into play.
From Augusta CEO:
“This brand-new course in dramatic writing, developed in partnership with the film and television industry, is a great example of the direction we’re moving here in Georgia. We’re working in collaboration with higher education, business leaders, and communities to prepare students for future employment and respond directly to industry needs.” —State School Superintendent Richard Woods
The Georgia Department of Education, Georgia Film Academy, the Technical College System of Georgia, the University System of Georgia and the Fayette County Public Schools collaborated to create the class, which is geared toward students interested in working in the film industry.”
Jeffrey Stepakoff is the executive director of the Georgia Film Academy, which was created to help develop a local workforce for the film industry. He told Augusta CEO this course is just the beginning.
“Georgia is moving like no other state to support the creative industries,” said Stepakoff. “No other state has invested in creating the infrastructure for content producers.”
