Josh Edwards scored on an 11-yard run in the fourth quarter and the Milton defense hung on to upset No. 1-ranked Colquitt County 14-13 in the Class 7A championship game. 

No. 8-ranked Milton (13-2) won their first state football championship. Colquitt County (14-1) lost in the championship game for the second straight year. 

The Edwards touchdown put the Eagles ahead 14-10 with 11:47 remaining and Colquitt's Ryan Fitzgerald made it a one-point game with a 24-yard field goal with 7:15 left.

After forcing a Milton punt, Colquitt County had one last opportunity to win the game. The Packers picked up two first downs, but a pass on fourth-and-13 only went for a 2-yard gain, giving the ball to Milton. The Eagles then ran out the final 1:08. 

Milton quarterback Jordan Yates, a Georgia Tech commit, completed 13 of 23 yards for 177 yards and one touchdowns and ran 25 times for 96 yards. Edwards rushed 12 times for 45 yards and the winning touchdown. Jordan Cox caught five passes for 96 yards. 

Colquitt's Daijun Edwards ran for 101 yards on 17 carries. Jaycee Harden completed 11 of 21 passes for 102 yards; he threw one interception and was sacked four times. 

The Milton defense was led by Charlie Keeney and Joseph Charleston with 11 tackles each.
