Eagle’s Landing Christian erupted for four touchdowns in the third quarter and defeated Wesleyan 33-13 on Friday to win the Class A Public championship and become the first school in GHSA history to win five consecutive state championships.

Keaton Mitchell, an East Carolina commit, rushed 19 times for 189 yards and four touchdowns to lead ELCA (13-1). Mitchell scored on runs of 75, 14, 1 and 26 yards.
ELCA rushed for 401 yards. The Chargers also got 132 yards and one touchdown from Josh Rogers and 113 yards on eight carries from quarterback Gabe Wright.
Wesleyan (12-2) was led by quarterback J.C. French, who rushed 19 times for 64 yards and completed 16 of 33 passes for 211 yard and one touchdown.
Wesleyan led 6-0 at halftime on a pair of field goals from Javy Martinez, but failed to scored touchdowns on two trips inside the 10.
The momentum shifted quickly in the third quarter. Mitchell scored on a 75-yard run on the second play of the period and Rogers scored on an 87-yard run as soon as the Chargers got the ball back. ELCA scored 27 points in the quarter to take a commanding lead.
The only other teams to win four straight championships were West Rome (1982-85) and Buford (2007-10).
