The Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter in Perry will reopen for business with new guidelines on July 1, officials announced in a press release on Thursday.

GNFA’s authority board members came to the unanimous decision to reopen on Wednesday during a monthly board meeting. Members established new safety standards to reduce the transmission of COVID-19 in scheduled events. 

Preventive measures include wearing a mask, practicing social distancing and making hand hygiene a top priority. The facility will also provide sanitizing stations in arenas and barns, and restrooms will be cleaned, sanitized and stocked with hand soap often. GNFA also cautions that people who have felt sick or experienced COVID-19 systems in the 24 hours prior to attending an event not to travel to or patronize the facility.

The annual Georgia National Fair will be returning for their 31st anniversary from October 8  to 18, 2020, and GNFA officials will release updated guidelines to patrons. 

GNFA CEO Steven Shimp is looking forward to a big turnout in October, but he still advocates for public safety.

“As always, safety is our top priority and this year’s fair is no exception,” he said. “We will be following all State of Georgia and CDC guidelines at the time of our event and will make them available to our fairgoers well in advance so that you can be prepared upon arrival.”
