DA To Present Shooting Of Unarmed Black Man To Grand Jury

A Coastal Georgia District Attorney said Tuesday that he will take the February killing of an unarmed black man before a grand jury. The man’s family and many in the community have been demanding action.The DA assigned to the killing of Ahmaud Arbery will present the case to a grand jury.
UPDATE: the Georgia Bureau of Investigation now says it will investigate this case.
On Feb. 23, Ahmaud Arbery was running through a mostly-white neighborhood in Brunswick when two men chased and shot him.
They say they suspected him of a burglar. Friends and family say Arbery was jogging.
Georgia NAACP President James Woodall said he is glad the case will go to a grand jury, but ultimately the shooters need to be arrested and charged.
“We should not sit in a state where people can literally, you know, hold unarmed black boys by gunpoint and, you know, kill them at will,” Woodall said.
It’s unclear when the case will actually go before a grand jury.
Georgia is under a judicial state of emergency until June 12 because of coronavirus.
