Republican State Sen. Brandon Beach Ends 6th District Congressional Run

State Sen. Brandon Beach (R-Alpharetta) is ending his campaign to represent Georgia's 6th Congressional District. 

In an email to supporters, the transportation committee chairman said he felt he would better serve Georgians staying in the Senate.

“During this campaign, I have come to realize that a calling to public service does not always mean running for higher office," he said. "After speaking with Gov. Kemp this weekend, I believe that, at this time, I can help more Georgians in the positions I currently hold and be more effective in the State Senate than in Congress."

Kemp said in a statement he applauded Beach's desire to serve in Congress but respects his decision to stay in state politics.

“Quite honestly, we need bold leadership under the Gold Dome to continue our success and keep Georgia the best place to live, work, and raise a family," Kemp said. "At the State Capitol, Senator Beach has led efforts to cut red tape and eliminate burdensome regulations on job creators.  He has championed crucial infrastructure projects and reforms and worked to protect our conservative Georgia values. I look forward to partnering with Senator Beach in the years to come to lower healthcare costs, protect our families from gangs, enhance our educational outcomes and put hardworking Georgians first.”
 

Beach was first elected to represent parts of North Fulton and Cherokee counties in 2013.

He was the second-biggest fundraiser among Republican challengers last quarter, bringing in about $167,000 with over $400,000 cash on hand. 

Karen Handel, who briefly represented the 6th District after winning a special election, has raised the most. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Nicole Rodden are the other two Republican candidates in the primary race. 

The winner will face off against Rep. Lucy McBath (D-Atlanta) next November.
