Georgia Adds Jobs, Increases Workforce In August

State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler says Georgia broke records again in August, posting all-time highs in jobs and employment.
The state also added to its labor force for the first time in six months and saw new unemployment claims fall.
Currently, Georgia's workforce sits at 5.1 million people. The total number of unemployment claims filed in August fell by 32% compared to July.
Butler said despite fears of a national slowdown of the economy, Georgia hasn't seen it yet.
“We're hearing from employers around the state about how they're having to be more competitive when it comes to wages and benefits,” Butler said.
“(Companies) are doing all they can to hold on to the talent they have. World events could change things in a minute ... but right now, Georgia is looking very strong.”
Georgia’s unemployment rate also held constant in August at 3.6%, slightly lower than the national rate of 3.7%.
Last month, EmployGeorgia.com noted more than 90,000 job postings.
The job sectors with the highest number of new jobs include:
- Professional/Business Services- 5,300
- Leisure/Hospitality- 4,000
- Education/Health Services- 3,500
- Government- 2,900
