Buses continued to move people out of mandatory evacuation area Wednesday.

As of noon Wednesday, 5,600 people were staying in shelters set up by the Georgia Emergency Management Agency due to Hurricane Dorian.

GPB's Rickey Bevington spoke Wednesday with Brunswick resident, Margi Humphries, during her stay at a shelter in Macon.

In Macon, 100 storm evacuees enjoyed hot showers and hot meals at a shelter.

“We all just become a family,” said 70-year-old evacuee Margi Humphries from Brunswick.

Humphries was bused to Macon along with her entire apartment complex near St. Simons Island.

"You will make friends. I think I have a handful. We are going to keep in touch,” Humphries said.

Meanwhile, pet shelters were caring for 300 horses, 93 dogs and 37 cats as of midday Wednesday.
