Don't let the rain keep you in this weekend — in Savannah, there's lots to do from an all-day Star Wars marathon to saying yes to the dress at the Georgia Bridal Show. Mahogany Bowers of Blessings in a Bookbag and Rachael Flora of Connect Savannah have your guide. Mahogany and Rachael talk Savannah weekend events.
Mahogany's picks:
- Join Service Brewing for live bluegrass music at Bluegrass By The Pint Friday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Local band City Hotel, known for their inventive interpretations of classic bluegrass standards as well as pop, soul, funk and indie hits, provides the music. Admission is free; attendees must be 21 and over.
- Relive the most epic saga of the 20th century with an all-day movie marathon of the Star Wars trilogy at the Lucas Theatre Saturday, beginning at noon. It's your chance to check everything out from letting the force be with you to Jedis, lightsabers, x-wings and the Death Star.
- Scope out your wedding dress maybes at the Georgia Bridal Show at the Savannah Civic Center Sunday from 12:30 to 4 p.m. People from around the world come to check out the bridal shows, where you can see wedding trends and your ideas come to life and meet face-to-face with wedding professionals. Tickets are $10.
Rachael's picks:
- Meet photographer Chris Ryba at Marsh Perspectives: Savannah Aerials Meet and Greet at El Coyote on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Ryba is the owner and drone operator at Savannah Aerials, where he's found his niche for photographing the lowcountry from a higher perspective. All featured artwork was captured via drone or aircraft of locations throughout the lowcountry including Tybee Island, Cockspur Lighthouse and the Tybee Island Pier. Admission is free.
- Enjoy what some argue is the best ice cream in town at Leopold's Ice Cream's 100th Birthday Block Party Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Join them on East Broughton Street for music, games, dancing, face painting and $1 single scoops all day. Admission is free.
- Continue a Savannah tradition with Lift Every Voice African-American history events on Saturday and Sunday. The initiative that started at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of African American History and Culture begins with a free boat trip to Ossabaw Island and Pin Point Heritage Museum. The event runs Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and Sunday at noon. Admission is free.
