Kemp Orders State Offices To Start Cutting Budgets
Primary Content
Gov. Brian Kemp is telling agencies around the state to prepare for spending cuts.
In a letter on Tuesday, Kemp directed government agencies to develop budget proposals with a 4% spending reduction this fiscal year, ending in June of 2020, and a 6% cut in fiscal year 2021, beginning July of next year.
The Governor's Office of Planning and Budget says all proposals will need to factor in a four-point priority plan laid out by the governor:
According to the AJC, this is the first time budget cut proposals have been requested since the Great Recession nearly a decade ago.
Budget submissions and strategic plans must be sent in by Sept. 6.
