Political Rewind: Sen. Doug Jones on Prosecuting the 1963 Birmingham Church Bombers
Primary Content
On this edition of Political Rewind, in 2017 Doug Jones became the first Democrat elected to an Alabama U.S. Senate seat in more than two decades with the help of a massive turnout of African-American voters.
Sen. Jones’ history was well known. As U.S. Attorney he doggedly pursued the long-dormant case of the notorious Birmingham church bombing, which took the lives of four young black girls. Almost 40 years after that crime, Jones won murder convictions of two members of the Ku Klux Klan for their role in the crime.
We speak with Jones about the book he’s written on the case, about his precarious position as a Democrat in a deep red state and more.
Plus, we take a look at the latest from the Georgia legislature as the session grinds toward a finale.
