Primary Content
The Georgia House has a new representative who will only be on the job for the last nine days of the 2019 session.
James Burchett (R-Waycross) was sworn into House seat 176 Monday morning before work in the chamber got underway.
Burchett won a runoff election last week to fill the seat vacated by Jason Shaw. Governor Nathan Deal appointed Shaw to the Public Service Commission.
“I’m looking forward to coming up here and working hand in hand with everyone in the House,” said Burchett. “It’s a humbling experience to be elected. I want to do the best I can for my district.”
There is still one House seat untilled. District 28, which include Banks, Stephens, and Habersham counties, is still empty.
The runoff election takes place on April 9 – one week after the session ends.
