Atlanta United Owner Arthur Blank stopped by the Georgia Capitol on Thursday to thank lawmakers and fans across Georgia for their support of the teams Major League Soccer championship.
“When you visit the stadium, I’m incredibly proud of hardware (trophy),” Blank told the Senate. “But, I’m probably prouder of the energy, passion and enthusiasm — every element we get from our fans.”
During his visit, the Senate approved Senate Bill 8, which creates an Atlanta United license plate and establishes a fund of $10 from the sale of each plate will go to the Atlanta United Foundation.
The Foundation supports various community organizations, including Soccer in the Streets programs in metro Atlanta. The bill now goes to the House for approval.
“The fact that after two years we have the ten most watched games in the history of the Major League Soccer. It’s a tribute to Atlanta. It’s a tribute to the region. It’s a tribute the partnership you all helped us create in building this incredible stadium we have,” Blank said.
Last year, Atlanta United won the first major sports championship in Georgia since 1995.
