Atlanta Bars Can Serve Alcohol Later During Super Bowl Week

Atlanta bars will be allowed to serve alcohol until 4 a.m. beginning Monday.

Though, the change is only in effect for Super Bowl 53.

GPB's Sophia Saliby reports on the extended hours for serving alcohol during the Super Bowl.

Michael Jakob is the owner of Elliot Street Deli and Pub, just a few blocks from Mercedes-Benz Stadium. He hasn’t decided whether he’ll stay open until 4 a.m., but he says the extended hours are huge for the city.

"Whether people get here, whether they come here after the multiple events going on in Centennial Park," he said. "Sure, we’ll take care of those people until we can throw them out."

Patrons must be cleared within 30 minutes after 4 a.m.

CEO of the Georgia Restaurant Association Karen Bremer said she doesn’t have specific numbers, but, anecdotally, she knows many restaurants will be open longer over the next week.

“I would say probably about 50 percent of the restaurateurs that I’ve spoken with are planning on extending their hours," she said. "Maybe not until 4, but many of them are going to extend their hours to be able to provide service to our out of town guests,"

The extended hours are in effect until the day after the Super Bowl.
