Primary Content
Move over UGA, the state has another NCAA football champion to celebrate. The Valdosta State Blazers won the Division 2 National Championship last Saturday.
It was a record-breaking 49 to 47 barn-burner with the Ferris State Bulldogs out of Michigan.
With the win, the Blazers finished an undefeated season with a 14-0 record and won their 4th national title since 2004, their first since 2012.
As the Blazers raised their trophy, they also cemented December 15th as a special day. According to the NCAA, they’ve won their past three championships on the 15th of December.
It was also a record day for the team’s quarterback Rogan Wells. He scored six times throwing five touchdown passes and catching another.
VSU finished as the only ranked, undefeated team in the Division 2's top 25.
They are also now tied with Grand Valley State for the third most Division 2 championships.
