It's the holiday season, and there are plenty of ways to celebrate in Savannah. Tanya Milton of the Savannah Tribune and Bill Dawers of hissing lawns and the Savannah Morning News have some tips.Tanya and Bill talk weekend events.

Bill's picks:

  • See some winter mischief and magic at A Midwinter Night's Dream, an adaptation of Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream by Collective Face. This wintry take on the classic is at Savannah State University's Kennedy Theatre at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday, this weekend and next; $25 general admission, $20 seniors, students and military.
  • Shop local this season starting with First Friday in Starland. This monthly evening of music, art, food and community also offers a chance to get some shopping in with local stores and artisans from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday; free.
  • Continue the local festivities at City Market's Holiday Open House and Christmas for Kids events. Enjoy Christmas carolers and treats at City Market shops from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, then make ornaments, decorate cookies, meet Santa and more from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday; free.
  • Enjoy some saucy fun at the Savannah Burlesque Festival, featuring both local favorites and performers from all over the world. The shows begin Thursday at Club One, then move to the Jinx for Friday and Saturday. Find the full schedule here; $12-125.

Tanya's picks:

  • Get in the holiday spirit with the help of local school children, who are performing daily "lunchtime serenades" on the steps of the district's central administration building at 208 Bull Street. Hear them at 11 a.m. each weekday through Dec. 19.
  • Find even more festive music at the Savannah Philharmonic's Holiday Pops concerts. The orchestra and chorus will perform holiday favorites at the Johnny Mercer Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday; $25-80. Families won't want to miss the Family Matinee featuring the Savannah Children's Choir at 3 p.m. Saturday; $15.
  • Celebrate by the water with Christmas on the River, featuring music and dance performances, pictures with Santa, a lighted Christmas parade and more. Find the full schedule here; free.
  • Get some giftwrapping help from the Greenbriar Children's Center's Gift Wrap Center at the Oglethorpe Mall. It opens Monday, and volunteers will be on hand daily through Christmas Eve.
