A record 6.9 million Georgians are registered to vote in the midterm elections. Some will start voting Monday, as in-person early voting officially begins.
Today on the show we explore different aspects of voting in Georgia, from the 53,000 voter registrations on hold to what actually happens to a ballot once it's cast."On Second Thought" with host Virginia Prescott for Monday, October 15, 2018.
We spoke with Atlanta Journal-Constitution reporter Mark Niesse about his reporting on voting in Georgia. We investigated different forms of early voting with Charles Stewart III, a political sciences professor from MIT, and Errin Haines Whack, who covers race and ethnicity for the Associated Press.
Finally, we heard from GPB Political Reporter Stephen Fowler, who took a deep dive into Georgia's election system. He started with the Secretary of State's office, which oversees elections. Georgia Tech computer science professor Richard DeMillo helped us understand the vulnerabilities in electronic voting systems.
