MARTA Unveils Billion Dollar Transportation Plan
Primary Content
Metro Atlanta's transit authority has unveiled its billion dollar plan to expand transit in the area. On Thursday, it sent a letter to Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms outlining some proposals.
The $2.7 billion plan is part of the transit authority's "More MARTA Atlanta" program.
In it, MARTA calls for more than $500 million for light rail along the city's BeltLine.
Operation of the city's streetcar switched to MARTA earlier this year. Now, MARTA wants to put a half billion dollars toward expanding the streetcar's route. Ridership on the car has remained low since it was completed.
Other plans include money to improve bus waiting shelters and build more lanes for bus rapid transit.
The plan goes before the full MARTA board next Thursday where it will be voted on. Bottoms can make recommendations to the plan before then.
