8 Years Of Former Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed's Spending Records Sought By Federal Government

The U.S. District Court of North Georgia has issued a subpoena for all of former Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed's activity on his city issued purchasing card during his time in office.
Reed served two terms as Atlanta’s mayor. The federal government is seeking his and his staff’s travel and purchasing card records. The subpoena also includes his daily calendar from 2010 to 2017.
William Boone, who teaches political science at Clark Atlanta University, said the larger issue for Reed is his political future.
"If anything comes out of this investigation and it directly links to Mayor Reed then certainly his career as politician is over,” Boone said.
The subpoenas are just the latest in a more than a yearlong corruption investigation by the U.S. Attorney's Office into Atlanta's City Hall.
Subpoena’s issued earlier this year sought the records of his brother and other Atlanta city officials.
Since the bribery investigation has started, current Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms has instituted legislation to more closely track city issued credit card usage. In a resolution approved by city council, the city’s chief financial officer is given power to create policies and conduct an audit when necessary.
