Four metro Atlanta counties take the top four places in opioid drug use in Georgia.

More people in the metro Atlanta area abuse opioids than anywhere else in the state, officials said Monday.

Cobb, Fulton, Gwinnett and DeKalb counties are in first through fourth place for the second year in a row, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Chatham County takes fifth place, knocking Richmond County out of the spot it held in 2017.

But while these counties represent the highest use of opioids, methamphetamine is still the bigger problem. More than three times the amount of meth was seized in 2018 as Oxycodone, heroin and hydrocodone combined.

This data was collected by the GBI on May 22, 2018, and is subject to change as additional cases are tested by the lab. The data represents 3,954 drug cases submitted to our crime lab by law enforcement agencies.
