Today, we’ll hear from three artists who have addressed the issue of mental illness in their music.

 

Many rap musicians have been reluctant to speak out due to the stigma, but these artists broke the silence.

Joe Budden details his serious contemplation of suicide in the song, “Only Human.”

Similarly, the Notorious B.I.G touched on the subject in his song, “Suicidal Thoughts.”

Another artist who dealt with mental illness is Kid Cudi, who checked himself into rehab in 2016 after dealing with depression for years.

He opened up about the problem in 2008 with the track, ‘My Prayer.”
