GPB's Leah Fleming speaks with lawyer Michael Tafelski
The term 'implicit bias' might not be something we hear often, but it does have an impact on how we think and act in our everyday lives.
According to the Kirwan Institute at Ohio State University, the term refers to the attitudes or stereotypes that affect our actions and decisions in an unconscious manner.
When it comes to school discipline, implicit bias has been a big issue in Georgia and across the country.
A recent study from the Government Accountability Office finds that black students are over-represented when it comes to suspensions, corporal punishment, and school arrests.
GPB's Leah Fleming sits down with lawyer Michael Tafelski of the Georgia Legal Services Program to examine the issue and discuss potential solutions.
