Sammy Davis, Jr.: I’ve Gotta Be Me
Primary Content
A documentary showing at the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival tells the story of singer and dancer Sammy Davis, Jr. The film is called “Sammy Davis, Jr.: I’ve Gotta Be Me.” Davis wore many hats: World War II veteran, Civil Rights activist, and singer/dancer member of the fabled Rat Pack.
We revisited a conversation with his daughter, Tracey Davis. A few years ago, she released a book called "Sammy Davis Jr.: A Personal Journey With My Father." It's based on conversations the two had as he battled throat cancer before his death in 1990.
Tracey Davis shared memories of her father in a 2014 interview on the NPR show, Tell Me More.
Then, we take a deeper dive into Davis' life with filmmaker Sam Pollard, director of “Sammy Davis, Jr.: I’ve Gotta Be Me.” He is showing that film at the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival and then participating in a Q&A.
The documentary is showing Wednesday, January 24 at 7:30 pm at the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival.
