Rallies Draw Trump Supporters and Women's Rights Supporters in Savannah
Primary Content
Two rallies today drew two very different groups to downtown Savannah today. In Ellis Square, supporters of
President Donald Trump held a rally on the sunny lawn. Republican leaders spoke to a gathering of around fifty people. Representative Buddy Carter, a Republican and supporter of the president, was supposed to attend but the government shutdown kept him in Washington. He spoke to the gathering over the phone, highlighting the GOP's accomplishments during Trump's first year in office. Others spoke about a return to Christian conservative values.
A few blocks away in Wright Square, the second annual Women's Solidarity March drew an estimated 500 people. Rep. Stacey Evans, a Democratic gubernatorial candidate, and Lisa Ring, a Democrat who is running against Rep. Carter for the first district seat, spoke about the need for more women to run for office. Community leaders, students from Savannah Arts Academy and others also spoke to the gathering. Then a drum corps led the chanting, sign-holding group in two streams up Bull Street to the Forsyth Park Fountain.
Both rallies happened without incidents of protest or violence. Find more images from the rallies at the GPB Savannah page on Facebook.
