Coastal Ga. Weekend: Savannah And Coastal Events Nov. 30-Dec. 3
Primary Content
Have some fun - and get in the holiday spirit - this weekend, with the help of Do Savannah's Heather Henley and Visit Savannah's Summer Bozeman.
Heather and Summer suggest some weekend events.
Summer's picks:
-Looking to recover from Thanksgiving with some fitness? Try the south's toughest bridge run. Walkers and runners will drage themselves over the Talmadge bridge - once, twice or three times depending on the distance - during the Enmarket Savannah Bridge Run. A post-race party featuring Tell Scarlet follows in Franklin Square. Saturday, 8 a.m.; $45-50 registration.
-See Savannah all decked out for the holidays on Old Town Trolley's Holiday Sights Tour. Enjoy caroling from the trolley and tales of holiday traditions, with stops at the Westin's gingerbread village and the Davenport House. Nightly through December; $28.50 adults, $16 children.
-It wouldn't be Christmas without the Nutcracker, and Savannah Ballet Theatre will deliver the classic ballet at the Lucas Theatre. Enjoy the magical tale as toys and sweets from around the world come to life and death - and stick around afterward to meet the characters in the lobby. Saturday, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; $25.
-Kick off the Christmas season island style with the Tybee Island Christmas Parade. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on hand for the parade - and ready to pose for photos afterward at the Tybee Gym. Saturday, 1 p.m.; free.
Heather's picks:
-Can't decide on a brunch spot? Try them all at the Savannah Brunch Festival at Red Gate Farms. Enjoy live music and other entertainment as you sample brunch eats from tons of local restaurants - plus beer, mimosas and bloody marys, of course. Saturday, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.; $15 in advance, $20 at the door, $65 VIP.
-Bring fido along for some holiday shopping at the Jingle Bark Stroll, benefiting Coastal Pet Rescue. Participants can find discounts and specials at some participating stores, plus goody bags for pets and refreshments at Kitchen Vixen's pet-friendly porch, open just for the occasion. Sunday, 1-5 p.m.; $5.
-Travel back in time for Tybee's Lighthouse Christmas, showcasing how lighthouse keepers and their families celebrated the holidays in the 1930s and 40s. The tour also promises hot cider and a view of the island's holiday lights from the top of the lighthouse. Saturday, 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30 p.m.; $15 adults and $10 kids.
-Continue the island festivities with the Tybee Lighted Boat Parade. Head to the Crab Shack to watch the decorated boats - or join the fun in your own boat - with hot dogs and chili for all and a contest for the wildest decorations and most festive crews. Sunday, 5-8 p.m.; free with food bank donation.
