Mayoral Election, The Trump Campaign Trail, The Athens Music Scene, Bradley Field

On Tuesday Atlantans voted for a new mayor and other important city positions. We analyze election day results with Andra Gillespie, Professor of Political Science at Emory University. And Greg Bluestein, Political Reporter for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

This spring, voter data was compromised at an election center at Kennesaw State University. State voters filed a lawsuit this summer, alleging the state could have prevented the suspected hacking. Shortly after, Georgia officials wiped the election data. Now state lawmakers are looking for answers. We talk about this with Jeremy Stahl, Senior Editor for Slate, who have been covering this story.

Everybody collects something, and in Paul Sherman’s family, that something is political campaign memorabilia. But the bumper stickers, t-shirts, signs and buttons of 2016 were different. Sherman’s new book is called “Look Away: Documenting Crude and Sexist Items From the Trump Campaign Trail.” It includes several pictures from rallies in Georgia. We recently caught up with two generations of collectors in the Sherman family.

The Athens music scene is legendary and always booming. Since it became famous for launching bands like R.E.M., the B-52s, and countless others, it has only grown in the number of bands, talent, and musical quality. Some Athenians are documenting the music and history of that town's scene. Gregory Frederick has taken it upon himself to videotape as many live shows in Athens as possible. His project, called "Athens, GA Live Music" already has thousands of videos in its collection. Jason Thrasher is a photographer, whose new book, "Athens Potluck," captures hundreds of the quintessential musicians that make Athens… Athens. We talk with Gregory and Jason ahead of a book release event for “Athens Potluck,” at Nuci’s Space this Sunday, November 12.

Veterans Day is this weekend. We meet a veteran named Bradley Field, who works in the film industry. Among his credits: "Detroit," "Suicide Squad," and "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice." On Second Thought regular Kalena Boller caught up with Bradley just after production wrapped in Atlanta on "Den of Thieves," which is out next year.
