Candidates from both parties are preparing for the 2018 election to replace Governor Nathan Deal.

On the Democratic side, former house minority leader Stacey Abrams and state representative Stacey Evans are both hoping to become the first female governor in Georgia history.

 

If elected, Abrams would be the first female African-American governor in U.S. history.

 

 

But recent events have pushed the issue of race to the forefront. Namely, a contentious protest at a recent Stacey Evans speech.
