Portraits of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

Today on “Political Rewind,” it’s Presidents Day! While some of you may celebrate with a day off from work, we couldn’t miss this chance to celebrate the nation’s highest office. Even our musical selections throughout the show pay homage to various Commanders-in-Chief. Can you name all of the tunes?

Up first, a little love for the legislative branch here in Georgia as we check in on the General Assembly. Some members of the state Senate are now using social media, via Periscope, to document committee meetings. The panel also discussed the 2018 budget, and thorny provisions dealing with tax breaks.

The team also took up the possible political future of Sally Yates. The prospect that she might run for governor has state Democrats salivating, but would she actually consider doing it and would it ensure a victory for blue-minded voters?

Back to the Oval: We were glad to welcome Brandon Rottinghaus, professor of Political Science at the University of Houston. He collaborated on a new ranking of U.S. presidents (the current White House resident not included!). The study surveyed 90-plus presidential historians. Check it out.
