Democrats Make New Push To Address Gerrymandering In Georgia

Today on "Political Rewind," the national fight against gerrymandering has once again found its way into the Georgia Legislature. Two state senators argue that Georgia, one of the most Republican state legislatures in the country, allows Republicans to create unfair maps in their favor. State Sen. Elena Parent (D) and State Rep. Pat Gardner (D) are seeking to create a nonpartisan commission to redraw legislative and congressional districts in Georgia.
Last year, a bill to allow firearms on college campuses failed to receive the governor’s signature after a tough fight. Will university officials be less reluctant to fight a campus carry bill this time around? Georgia lawmakers will again push for guns on campuses and some believe that the regents may be less inclined to fight the bill this year since it will only further inflame legislators already angry that the bill was vetoed.
More than a month after the general election, many wonder if we in danger of undermining our basic democratic institutions for the sake of short-term partisan gain. With outgoing administrations setting up roadblocks for successors and protests erupting to de-legitimize Trump’s victory by attacking the Electoral College, what is the potential fallout?
In Trump transition news, top Jewish surrogate David Friedman has been named as the next U.S. Ambassador to Israel. The President-elect’s administration has indicated that Friedman will serve form Jerusalem, describing the city as "Israel's eternal capital." Friedman and the administration have both neglected a two-state solution to the conflict in Jerusalem. Questions have been raised whether this stance would precipitate anti-American violence in the region and beyond.
