Our neighbor to the South suffered an unspeakable tragedy this weekend.  The massacre at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida is now on record as the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history. The pain is felt here in Georgia and across the nation today as we learn more details about the alleged shooter and his possible motives.  We began today's show with your words of comfort for Orlando. Here is how Georgia grieves for the loss of 49 lives taken by an act of violence.

We share words of comfort from Georgians for those who lost their lives in the Pulse nightclub mass shooting. And, we revisit a conversation about whether gun violence should be researched as a public health issue.

The horrific incident also motivated us to listen back to a segment where we explored whether gun violence should be studied as a matter of public health. The Centers for Disease Control study gun violence, but it's limited in its research in this area.  We spoke with Garen Winemute and Mark Rosenberg about why. Winemute is director of the Violence Prevention Research Program at the UC-Davis School of Medicine. Rosenberg is head of the Task Force for Global Health based in DeKalb County, GA.
