Macon&Eggs: Monday Morning Quarterbacking Tuesday's Elections!
Primary Content
Voter turnout was decent and many Republican voters asked for a Democratic ballot as election Tuesday went down in Middle Georgia this week. Journalists Charles Richardson of the Telegraph and GPB Macon's Leah Fleming are breaking down some key races this week on Macon&Eggs.
Elections were held in Georgia this week.
Voter turnout would be the deciding factor is what the Telegraph's Charles Richardson said. Did that ring true?
In Macon-Bibb the biggest race of the day was the contest for sheriff. David Davis won the Democratic primary election for sheriff, avoiding a runoff in that race, and with no Republican challenger, he will be re-elected.
Incumbent Mayor Robert Reichert won the election to serve another term as Macon-Bibb mayor. This is his fourth and final term. Meanwhile, former Mayor C. Jack Ellis will not be returning to public office in Bibb as Wade McCord won the election for Tax Commissioner.
Also, a Georgia State House race may not be over. Gerald Harvey lost to Miriam Paris by 9 percent of the vote in the House District 142 race in Macon. Disqualified candidate Frank Austin still got 14 percent. Gerald Harvey blames the Bibb County Board of Elections for those missed votes.
Finally, the results on election night came in very late. Polls closed at 7:00 p.m., but results weren't released until hours later. What went wrong?
