Herman Cain is still fighting COVID-19 in an Atlanta area hospital, more than three weeks after being admitted, according to an update on his Twitter account.

The 74-year-old former Republican presidential candidate is “being treated with oxygen for his lungs,” a spokesperson said Monday, nearly one month after it was announced that Cain was hospitalized with the coronavirus.

Cain who is a co-chair of Black Voices for Trump attended President Donald Trump’s June 20 rally in Tulsa. Cain posted a photo to his Instagram account of a group at the rally without masks or social distancing.

His spokesperson has said Cain traveled a lot after the event, and it was not immediately clear where he contracted coronavirus.

Cain, the former CEO of Godfather's Pizza, survived stage IV colon cancer in 2006. After his 2012 presidential bid, he became a syndicated radio host in Atlanta on 95.5/AM 750 WSB for several years. More recently, he was a television host on conservative NewsMaxTV.

On Twitter, his spokesperson said, "Re-strengthening the lungs is a long and slow process, and the doctors want to be thorough about it."

"We'd like him to be able to come home now, which is frustrating, but we're glad the doctors are being thorough and making sure they do the job right," the tweet said. "Thank you for praying, everyone. Please keep doing it. He really is getting better, which means it is working."
