Reflections from Norcross-Mill Creek
Primary Content
Props to my colleague, legendary Brookwood coach Dave Hunter, for forecasting this one from the get go. Coach Hunter and our other awesome analyst, former-Broncos star Trey McDaniel, both zeroed in from the start the ability of the Blue Devils to control the line of scrimmage with the excellent run game of Alvin Kamara, Tyvon Manns, and Curtis Whisby. The Blue Devils were also a threat with the quick strike, big play ability of their splendid Jason Croom (the 6 foot-5, 213 pound senior has committed to the University of Tennessee).
The Blue Devils were on their way to blowing out the Hawks (Norcross led at one point 27-7), but the Hawks (led by QB John Russ and running back Jacorey Lewis) clawed their way back in it only to see the aforementioned Alvin Kamara bust one for 49 yards to score what proved to be a winning touchdown. Final Norcross 41 Mill Creek 34 With this victory, the 5-0 Blue Devils (led by their outstanding coach Keith Maloof) almost assured themselves of a post-season berth out of Region 7 5A. If they are able to avoid injuries and stay refreshed and focused, they have a good chance of getting to the Georgia Dome come December. The Blue Devils now head to an off week, but soon after they will face 2 brutal opponents: North Gwinnett and Peachtree Ridge. For now, Mill Creek's Head Coach Shannon Jarvis will use the off week to regain the Hawks' mojo. Losses to Mt. View and Norcross put the Hawks' postseason chances behind the proverbial 8ball. Mill Creek faces Meadowcreek in 2 weeks.
Back to Mr. Kamara: his stats last week against Mill Creek include 7 carries for 222 yards and 3 touchdowns (TDS). The Norcross star joins us in the GPB Sports Blog.
This week we head to Cobb County, specifically Raider Valley, where Walton High School will play host to the Lassiter Trojans. So many storylines will grace our Football Fridays showcase game with likes of Eddie Printz, Tyren Jones, Kene Orjioke, Cody Richardson, and the Blaylock twins, Daron and Zach. Both coaches Rocky Hidalgo, and Jep Irwin will have their teams ready and we will be READY with the Best High School Football coverage, bar none. Hopefully the Raiders and
Trojans can duplicate what the Blue Devils and Hawks gave us last week. Toe meets leather in our Primetime coverage at 8PM with Mark Harmon, Jon Nelson, Jackie Brittain, and Chrissy Warrilow.
One more note before we leave Hoschton: Congratulations to the Junior League Golf Champions (9-13 years old group). These great young men from Hamilton Mill/Sugarloaf represented Metro Atlanta. They defeated teams from Tampa, San Diego, and Dallas. You guys ROCK!
Au Revoir until we see you again next week on the GPB Sports Blog. Have a GREAT week!
