Terrell Robinson has been on fire for Chattanooga ever since he took over the quarterback reigns following BJ Coleman’s injury. Saturday’s tilt against Elon was another showcase for his ability as Robinson helped the Mocs jump out to a 28-3 halftime lead en route to a 42-18 victory.In the first half, Robinson threw for three scores and converted each time UTC entered the red zone. Robinson got Chattanooga on the board with 6:33 left in the first quarter when he hit Joel Bradford on a 52-yard scoring reception, capping a six-play, 86-yard drive. After the Mocs’ Gunner Miller recorded a pick-six, Robinson was at it again, finding Sloan Allison for an 11-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Just minutes before halftime, Robinson found Marlon Anthony for a six-yard touchdown. Elon did connect on a 36-yard field goal before the teams headed to the locker room for intermission.

Robinson was nearly perfect in the first half, going 11-12 for 140 yards, finding five difference receivers. On the other sideline, Elon’s Thomas Wilson was sacked twice and tossed one interception in the first half as he was having trouble finding Aaron Mellette. Wilson took off seven times from the pocket, gaining 26 yards.

In the second half Elon was able to add a field goal early and the defense quickly got the ball back from Chattanooga. After racking up just 110 yards in the first half, Elon nearly matched that number on its first two drives in the third quarter while trimming the lead to 28-12 when Wilson found Jeremy Peterson for a score.

Chattanooga recovered an Elon on-side kick to start with excellent field position but the Elon defense once again stood tall and forced a three-and-out, giving the offense yet another chance to dent the scoreboard.

As the fourth quarter began, Elon drove down for a score, getting it after converting on a fourth-and-nine. Dontay Taylor recorded his sixth touchdown on the year as he finished off the 99-yard drive with a four-yard score. Elon would miss the two-point conversion.

Marquis Green found the end zone from 21 yards out on the subsequent drive to give the Mocs a bit of breathing room. Robinson had softened up the defense with Chattanooga’s longest play from scrimmage, a 40-yard scramble up the right sideline just two plays prior to the scoring run. Another Wilson interception, this one picked off by Kadeem Wise, snuffed out any further hope of a Elon comeback. JJ Jackson would also contribute a 19-yard run for a score to give the Mocs the 42-18 victory.

Robinson finished with 140 yards through the air and another 115 on the ground with three touchdowns. The Mocs defense recorded four turnovers on the day and the team posted 28 points off of those miscues. The win also snapped a Chattanooga five-game losing streak to Elon.

Up next for Elon is a trip to Spartanburg, South Carolina, to face Wofford. The Terriers were ranked No. 4 in the FCS Coaches Poll before losing to Furman 26-21. Meanwhile the Mocs will welcome Furman’s high-flying passing attack into Finley Stadium next Saturday.
