Packin' for Kingsland

As we begin the week of Thanksgiving the Colquitt County Packers have alot to be thankful for. Coach Russ Propst and Company secured a spot in the GHSA 5A quarterfinals with a 17-7 victory over the Bulldogs of North Gwinnett in Tom Robinson Memorial Stadium last Friday. The Packers down 7-nothing at the half scored 17 unanswered points thanks in part to the play of wide receiver/slotback Willie Woodyard.

Woodyard scored on plays from 75 yards and 9 yards for the Packers. Woodyard and sophomore quarterback Cole Segraves both joined me on the GPB Sports Blog to talk about the Packers victory over North Gwinnett and their upcoming game this week down in Kingsland against Jeff Herron's top ranked Camden County Wildcats. Colquitt County's defense led by linebacker Sharmaine Washington, and cornerback E'Darius Davis forced 4 North Gwinnett turnovers. Davis had two interceptions off Bulldogs QB Scotty Hosch, his last one helped seal the Packers win.

Colquitt County's victory helps avenge their tough fortunes against Gwinnett County schools. In the 2010 5A state final the Packers lost to the eventual state champ Brookwood 52-38. North Gwinnett Bob Sphire's Bulldogs had a 10 game winning streak snapped. For the 3-time Region 7-5A champions its yet another second exit. They finish the season at 10-2. Colquitt County's record goes to 10-2. Let's hear from the aforementioned Cole Segraves, and Willie Woodyard.
