Public Service/Political Career:
Jason Hayes is the Democratic nominee for the state House seat in District 49, which covers Alpharetta in Fulton County. Hayes, a physician and political newcomer, is challenging nine-term Republican incumbent Rep. Charles “Chuck” Martin. Hayes won the Democractic primary for the seat in June, defeating retired businessman Ken Lawler with 54% of the vote.
Hayes, who grew up in Louisiana, holds an M.D. and M.S. degrees from Meharry Medical College in Tennessee. He also has a Physician Executive M.B.A. Hayes served as a congressional intern for U.S. Rep. Jim Cooper (D-Tenn.) while in medical school and was an epidemiology intern at the CDC in 2000.
Hayes moved to Alpharetta in 2015 and now heads several medical practices and a consulting business. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Hayes’ campaign platform emphasizes improving health care access for Georgians. He calls for expanding Medicaid coverage and increasing the health care workforce to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. He also advocates increased funding for the HOPE scholarship and providing tax breaks to small business owners.
Hayes has received endorsements from the Committee for a New Georgia and the American Advocacy Fund. He has received backing from the National Democratic Redistricting Party and Georgia Onward, a political action committee supporting Democrats in closely contested state House races.
