Georgia's First Lady Announces Governor Still Healthy Despite COVID Exposure

First Lady Marty Kemp gave an update on Gov. Brian Kemp’s health Tuesday night at Sen. Kelly Loeffler’s election night rally.

“I am very excited to let you know that your governor is healthy, no symptoms, but he is self-quarantined,” she said.

Both of the Kemps entered self-quarantine Oct. 30 after being Gov. Kemp was exposed to someone who later tested positive for COVID-19. Marty Kemp did not have direct exposure to the person who tested positive.

Kemp’s office said in a statement Friday afternoon that the couple will continue following Georgia Department of Public Health guidelines by isolating themselves even after their test results came back negative.

Kemp has avoided campaign stops during the last few days before Election Day. Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan, Marty Kemp and the Kemps’ daughters Lucy and Amy Porter Kemp came to the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Buckhead Tuesday to rally for Loeffler. 

The rally was a mask-optional affair with the majority of the attendees milling about without masks.

Kemp has been criticized by political opponents and medical experts for not requiring Georgians to wear masks. He consistently tells Georgians to wear masks when in public and often wears one when making appearances.

People who were under quarantine or who tested positive for COVID-19 were allowed to vote in-person on Election Day, but Kemp voted with an absentee ballot.
