New Bike, Pedestrian Trail Opens In Savannah

Chatham County leaders last week opened a new multi-purpose recreational trail that’s been decades in the making.
The Truman Linear Park Trail will eventually run 6 miles from one of the city’s parks to a popular recreation area on the south side of Savannah.
This new 3-mile section is the largest portion yet.
County Commissioner Helen Stone, speaking at the ribbon-cutting, encouraged people to walk, run or bike on the new path.
“It is a time when, you all, we need to think about fitness and the wellness of our bodies and, again, we live in an environment that we can do this almost year-round,” she said.
This trail is part of a broader network of trails called Tide to Town that will connect neighborhoods all over Savannah and link up with trails elsewhere in the region.
The newly opened portion of the Truman Linear Park Trail is the county’s portion of the joint project with the City of Savannah. The city is expected to begin construction on the remainder of its portion next year.
