Daytin Baker’s interception and D.J. Bell’s touchdown run lifted Pierce County to a 13-6 overtime win against Oconee County in the Class 3A championship.
The game was tied 7-7 at the end of regulation. On Oconee County’s first play in overtime, quarterback Jacob Wright had his pass picked off by Baker, his second interception of the game. On Pierce County’s first play, Bell took the direct snap and ran around the left corner for a 15-yard touchdown run and the victory.

The game was scoreless until the fourth quarter. Oconee County broke the deadlock when Wright threw a perfect pass over two defenders and into the arms of Jake Johnson for a 13-yard touchdown.
But Pierce answered with the tying score. Bell ran it in from the 5.
Bell, a sophomore, rushed 29 times for 158 yards and two touchdowns. Jermaine Brewton completed 9 of 11 for 97 yards, including a 47-yarder.
Oconee County was led by Wright, who completed 11 of 21 for 98 yards and one touchdown, but was intercepted three times. Johnson had five catches for 44 yards.
Pierce County (13-1) won its first state championship. Oconee County (12-1) finished as state runner-up for the third straight year.
