Primary Content
Thousands of children in low-income families could soon have an easier path to Medicaid in Georgia after “express lane” legislation passed the Georgia State Senate on Wednesday.
House Bill 163 would allow children whose families receive food assistance to be automatically enrolled in Medicaid and PeachCare for Kids.
Suzanne Wooley with Voices for Georgia's Children says House Bill 163 could lead to the Medicaid enrollment of 70,000 children in Georgia.
The bill is sponsored by State Rep. Sharon Cooper (R-Marietta) and was presented in the Senate on Wednesday by State Sen. Ben Watson (R-Savannah).
HB 163 passed the Senate 52-0 after also passing the House unanimously 166-0 last month. It now goes to Gov. Brian Kemp's desk for his signature.
