Top GHSA Teams Making Waves

Brookwood and Peachtree Ridge split a meet Saturday at Mountain Park. The No. 3 Broncos won the boys meet 174-111, while the No. 5 Peachtree Ridge girls edged No. 2 Brookwood 157-150. Brookwood’s boys won the 200-free relay and the 400-free relay, while the girls won the 200-free relay. Individual winners for Brookwood were Alex Taylor in the boys 200-meter freestyle and the 100-meter backstroke, Alex Thebeau in the 100-meter butterfly and Nick LaMontagne in the 100-meter freestyle and 100-meter breaststroke. Becky Bass of the Brookwood girls won the 100-meter freestyle. For Peachtree Ridge, Kent Yang (500 freestyle), Brett Kester (50 freestyle) and Guido Saccaggi helped the boys team with individual wins while Christina Wang (100 backstroke, 50 freestyle), Carrington Bevier (100 breatstroke, 200 IM), Savannah Ruedt (200 and 500 freestyle), Haley McInery (100 butterfly) and Anna Cate Miller (1-meter dive) had wins. The girls team also won the 400 freestyle and 200 medley while the boys won the 200 medley.
The No. 4 Alpharetta boys beat Class A-AAAAA No. 2 Wesleyan 208.5 to 105.5 Thursday at Davidson Natatorium. Wesleyan’s No. 8-ranked girls, however, outdid Alpharetta 197-118. Winners for the Alpharetta boys were Trent Lusby (200 freestyle, 500 freestyle), Patrick Cusick (200 IM, 100 butterfly), Jay Wellman (100 backstroke), Perry Brandes (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle), Brain Cai (100 breastroke), and diver Jack Nyquist. For the Raiders’ girls team, Kelly Hogan (200 freestyle), Rachel Koch (200 IM), Danielle Bordes (50 freestyle) and Addie Craver (100 backstroke) each won races. Alpharetta’s boys won the 200 medley relay and the 200 and 400 freestyle relays, while the girls won the 200 medley and 400 freestyle. Wesleyan’s Carrie Ciccotello (100 freestyle), Rachel Koch (200 IM, 500 freestyle), Lillie Baker (100 breaststroke) and Camille Roy (100 butterfly) all won races while diver Taylor Panthers won the girl’s 1-meter dive.
