Redan Girls Assume AAAA Top Spot

The big changes this week came in 4A as Columbia lost to Redan and, therefore, relinquished its spot atop the poll. Redan took over while Columbia fell to No. 3. Also in 4A, Marist, Chestatee and Sandy Creek each entered the poll after having recent success while Statesboro, LaGrange and Fayette County dropped out after suffering setbacks in the past week. South Effingham fell to No. 6 after falling to rival Effingham County, which entered the 5A poll at No. 10.

In the state’s largest classification, Tift County dropped out after being upset by Valdosta. North Cobb and Hughes each climbed a spot while Hillgrove, on a 4-game win streak, re-entered the poll at No. 10

In Class AAA, No. 1 Washington County had a scare against Dodge County, but won the game and retained its spot. Dodge County, in light of only two losses – both to WaCo – since Dec. 14, debuted in the rankings at No. 10. Central-Carroll lost to Chapel Hill, so the two clubs switched spots, while Southwest Macon fell out after a loss to Peach County.

In AA, Thomasville lost to Pelham by a point, the same margin by which it beat Pelham earlier in the year. The Bulldogs dropped to No. 6 with Pelham debuting at No. 7.
