1. The Department of Justice issues 40 subpoenas.
- The New York Times reports the DOJ issued subpoenas to aides of former President Donald Trump regarding Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
2. Georgia House Speaker David Ralston says the current political climate is too heated.
- The AJC's Jolt reports he made the comments during a speech to the Savannah Rotary Club.
- Ralston did not address issues like abortion, divisive concepts, or permitless carry.
- But he did outline his economic and infrastructure plans for the next legislative sessions.
3. Stacey Abrams ups her outreach to Black men.
- A July AJC poll shows the Democratic nominee for governor is only gaining about 80% of the Black vote.
- That lags 5% behind Sen. Raphael Warnock.
- Democrats usually garner 90% of the Black vote in the Peach State.
- Abrams held a special event to reach out to Black male voters on Friday.
4. Keeping an eye on the 1st Congressional District race in Savannah.
- Margaret Coker says Georgia's 1st District race is one of the most competitive races in the midterms elections.
5. Major credit card companies will categorize gun sales.
- Visa will start separately categorizing gun sales .
- It joins Mastercard and American Express which are undergoing similar moves.
- The National Rifle Association was critical of the move, but gun control advocates are praising it.
